What is the difference between rolled gauze and compressed gauze?
Rolled gauze comes on a continuous roll for wrapping and light packing. Compressed gauze is vacuum-packed flat to save space and is built for packing a deep wound - it comes in S-rolled or Z-folded, depending on user preference. Many kits carry both, rolled for wrapping and compressed for packing.
What size bandage do I need for a trauma kit?
Most kits carry compressed gauze for packing, a 3" elastic wrap or emergency trauma dressing for compression, a triangular bandage for slings or splinting, and adhesive bandages for minor cuts. Additional dressings and wound closures can also be helpful. . Build around the injuries your team is likely to treat, since cleaning wounds and covering them fast can make the difference in a medical emergency.
When would I use a triangular bandage?
A triangular bandage makes a sling for an arm injury, a swathe to bind an arm to the body, or a tie to hold a splint in place. Folded, it also works as a wide cravat for direct pressure. It is one of the most versatile items in a kit, making it well worth carrying one or two in your kit.
Why choose vacuum-packed gauze and wraps?
Vacuum-packed gauze and a 3" elastic wrap give you the same function as bulky rolls in a fraction of the space. Trauma kits are often about fitting the essential supplies in a small and accessible kit, so reducing cube-size when possible allows you to choose a smaller pouch or carry more equipment in a larger one.
