What does ANSI Z87.1 mean on safety glasses?

Z87.1 is the American safety standard for eye protection, set by ISEA and ANSI. Eyewear that meets these safety standards has passed impact testing that ordinary sunglasses do not, including high-mass and high-velocity strikes. The ESS glasses and goggles here also meet U.S. MIL-SPEC standards, the same protection issued to service members.

Do these lenses block UV and glare?

Yes. The tinted and polarized lenses cut glare in bright conditions and block UV, while clear lenses keep full light for low-light work. Yellow and hi-def lenses lift contrast on hazy or overcast days for sharper visual clarity, and the anti-fog coating keeps all of them clear during exertion.

Will these fit with a helmet and other gear?

The glasses and goggles here are built low-profile to clear a helmet and work with headborne equipment and hearing protection. Adjustable temples and straps dial in a secure fit that stays put when you move.

What should I do if something gets in my eye in the field?

Flush it. A portable eyewash device attaches to a standard water bottle and lets you rinse debris or contaminants on scene, and an eye magnet with a loop removes metallic and non-metallic particles. Both are small enough to keep in a first aid kit - get proper first aid training and be prepared to seek professional medical care for any serious eye injury..
