Be Prepared for It All

Ballistic protection is not a place to guess. Every piece of protective gear we carry is rated by an NIJ-certified lab, so the protection level is verified rather than claimed.

Rescue Essentials has supplied law enforcement, federal agencies, and Fire/EMS departments since 1991, and we can match a helmet, vest, and the medical gear that mounts to it into one platform sized for your team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an NIJ protection level mean?
The National Institute of Justice sets the U.S. standard for body armor and rates it by the threats it stops in testing. Level IIIA, the rating on the soft armor, side plates, and helmets in this collection, is tested against most handgun rounds. Every panel and helmet we carry is tested by an NIJ-certified lab to the level stated on its product page.
What is the difference between a bump helmet and a ballistic helmet?
A bump helmet protects against impact, falls, and debris but carries no ballistic rating. A ballistic helmet is built from ballistic material and tested to stop fragmentation and handgun threats. If you need rated head protection, check the product page for an NIJ level. A bump helmet will not have one.
How do I get the right size and fit?
The helmet fit comes from the shell size plus the pad and retention system, with adjustable comfort pads and a dial or four-point harness for a stable fit. A helmet that shifts will not protect the way it should. Vests and carriers are sized to the wearer and adjust through the cummerbund and straps. Product pages list sizing, and for agency orders our team can help you find the correct size.
Can a helmet protect against blunt impact as well as ballistics?
The two are rated separately. Ballistic testing measures penetration resistance, while the pad system handles blunt impact and blunt force trauma by absorbing and spreading force. A quality pad system like the D3O TRUST 7 in the SS 401 is tested for impact deceleration, but no helmet eliminates the risk of injury from a hard hit. It reduces it.
Can agencies order armor and helmets in volume?
Yes. We handle agency and contract sales, volume pricing, and custom platform builds for law enforcement, fire, rescue task force, and EMS teams across the United States. Request a quote, and our team will build to your operational needs.
