Wound Management

I have bought 2 so far, (SWAT-T Tourniquet), in both colors. The orange is for my motorcycle. The black for my range bag/ chest rig. I like this product because it is easier to pack/ carry then a standard tourniquet and can be used as a pressure dressing. When I tell other riders I carry a tourniquet in my motorcycle bag, I often get "that's a great idea". Never can be over preped.

Excellent product, (Burn Gel with Lidocaine). I burnt my hand when I picked up a plastic grilling tool that was too close to the flame. The plastic stuck to my skin in several places. Within 30 seconds I was in the house applying the Burn Gel as directed. I was able to peel off the plastic that had burned into my skin and have minimal scarring from the incident. It took a week to heal but without the Burn Gel I would have made a trip to the ER. This stuff is AMAZING!

What belongs in a bleeding control and wound care kit?

At minimum, a tourniquet, a hemostatic dressing, a pressure bandage, wound packing gauze, gloves, and tape. Together these supplies let you stop the bleed, pack the wound, and dress it for transport. Many responders build around an IFAK and add components as protocols require.

What is the difference between a hemostatic dressing and a regular wound dressing?

A hemostatic dressing is treated to speed clotting and packs into deep or junctional wounds that direct pressure cannot control. A standard wound dressing maintains compression and covers the wound bed. The wound type determines the dressing you reach for, so most complete kits carry both.
