Description

Slishman Traction Splint - Compact

Extremely compact and lightweight, the new Slishman Traction Splint - Compact (STS-C) is designed for situations where medical equipment must be packed into difficult or remote locations. Ideally suited for search and rescue, special operations, military medics, wildland firefighters, backcountry skiers, or anyone trying to minimize pack weight and cube space. The STS-C is the more compact version of the Slishman Traction Splint. Like the original, the STS-C generates mechanical advantage to apply finely tuned, easily adjusted, femoral traction.

Slishman Traction Splint - Compact Features

  • Radiolucent
  • One size fits all, from small children to large adults
  • Less than 13 ounces, and 13” packed—one of the smallest and lightest traction splints on the market
  • Single connected device—no loose parts, which may get lost
  • Can be applied in under a minute with minimal training
  • Application possible even in cases of lower leg/foot amputation
  • Includes the Slishman Pressure Wrap to assist with rotational stability
  • Includes black, MOLLE-compatible case
  • Country of Origin: USA
  • TAA Compliant

Multi-Cam case option is also available, sold separately.

Application Information:

The distal hitch on the STS-C is applied just proximal to the calf or patella. Coarse positioning is accomplished using a spring button to extend and lock the outer tube. Fine traction is accomplished by pulling on the cord, followed by locking with a downward pull into the V-notch. Because you control all traction at the hip, you can easily make adjustments as conditions change or en route to the hospital.

    Compact traction splint

    Posted by Paul134 on 03 02 2026

A traction splint is not something we use very often. I like this splint because it avoids the ankle strap of the other brands. When we train on traction splint the ankle strap seems to be the hangup for most of us, but anyone can put a velcro strap around the calf. I also like that it doesn't stick past the end of the cot when loading and shutting the back door! The reason I only give 4 stars is that I am not sure it would reach far enough for a very tall person. - RESPONSE - Sam Slishman "Thanks very much for your review of the STS-C. I thought I'd send a quick note just to address your concern about using it for tall people. I haven't met any 8 footers, but I can say that since release of the product in 2020 we haven't had feedback that it failed on a patient who was too tall. If the groin strap webbing and the neoprene webbing are made sufficiently snug, then the length seems to do the trick for the tallest people we've found. Also the distal strap can be applied proximal to the patella if needed. (We tried it on an amputee a few years back who didn't have a calf.) In any case, thanks very much for your review."

I was thrilled for the ability to carry it strapped to my field pack.

I have the original Slishman Traction Splint I purchased a few decades ago at an EMS show. When I heard that Dr. Slishman released a more compact version, I was thrilled for the ability to carry it strapped to my field pack. I sat my 12 year-old grandson down as soon as I opened the package and it was supper easy to apply and effective in providing traction. Well done, Dr. Slishman! This will be a GoTo in my WFR classes, as well as my Field bag.

    Revolutionary

The only traction splint that can establish traction proximal as well as distal to the knee. It has always been a contraindication to establish traction if there where fractures or structural injuries in the lower leg, as well as dealing with below the knee amputations. The only traction splint I carry.
