What is an IFAK?
An IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) is a compact trauma kit designed to treat life-threatening injuries, especially severe bleeding, in emergency situations before professional medical help arrives.
What items are typically included in a public access bleeding control kit?
Bleeding control kits typically include a tourniquet, hemostatic or wound-packing gauze and a pressure dressing to control life-threatening bleeding. Many kits also contain nitrile gloves, trauma shears, a permanent marker and simple instructions. Contents vary by kit size, but the primary purpose is to control severe bleeding until emergency medical help arrives.
What venues, buildings and workplaces should keep bleeding control kits accessible?
Schools, offices, government buildings, community centers, sports venues, transportation facilities and other high-traffic public spaces should keep STOP THE BLEED kits accessible. Kits are especially important anywhere large groups gather or severe bleeding could occur before EMS arrives. They should be clearly marked, easy to reach and placed near AEDs or first aid stations, with multiple kits distributed throughout larger facilities.
Can I customize an IFAK?
Yes. Many of our kits are modular or can be custom configured. Contact our team for help selecting components that match your company's protocols, safety requirements, vehicle setups or response needs.
Do I need training to use an IFAK?
You do not need to be a medical professional to learn how to use an IFAK, but hands-on training is strongly recommended. A first aid or Stop the Bleed course teaches you to recognize life-threatening bleeding, pack a wound and correctly apply a tourniquet. Proper training helps you use the kit safely and confidently until emergency medical services arrive.
