FAQs

Please read our FAQ page to find out more.

What is an IFAK?

An IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) is a compact trauma kit designed to treat life-threatening injuries, especially severe bleeding, in emergency situations before professional medical help arrives.

What items are typically included in a outdoors IFAK?

Common items in outdoor IFAKs include a tourniquet, pressure dressing, hemostatic gauze and compressed gauze for controlling severe bleeding. Many kits also contain gloves, trauma shears and medical tape. Outdoor enthusiasts may add blister care, burn treatments, hypothermia prevention, wound-cleaning supplies and personal medications based on the trip and environment.

Who should carry an IFAK?

Anyone venturing into the outdoors should carry medical supplies designed to treat the most common scenarios they may face. Common minor outdoor injuries include cuts, scrapes, blisters, sprains and muscle strains. Hikers and campers may also experience insect bites, stings, sunburn and minor burns from cooking or campfires.

Can I customize an IFAK?

Yes. Contact our team to discuss customization options and let us help you choose the right bag and component to fit your team's needs.

Do I need training to use an IFAK?

Tools are only helpful if you know how to use them. Familiarize yourself with the components of your medical kits and read all instructions so that you will be able to respond quickly in an emergency. If your kit contains bleeding control supplies like tourniquets and wound packing gauze, seek out a STOP THE BLEED course in your region to get hands-on training on these vital supplies.
